🌿 2025 IN REVIEW

As 2025 draws to a close, we wanted to say a huge thank you! It’s thanks to our collective pressure in and outside Parliament that we have made such big steps towards making our shared goal a reality – legislation that restores nature and gets us back on track to address the climate crisis.

It can sometimes feel like everything is going backwards, with airport expansions, removal of nature protections in planning, looming decisions over Rosebank—so we wanted to take a breath and take stock of all we have achieved together and the power we are building for a fairer, more prosperous future.

In 2026, we will be doubling down, working with campaigners to restore hope in climate and nature action and giving YOU the tools to deliver real change in your constituency.

✊  GROWING SUPPORT FOR THE CAN BILL

This year we continued to build momentum behind the Climate and Nature Bill. 15 new councils passed motions calling on the Government to pass the bill into law, and support is growing far beyond local authorities. More than 150 new businesses and local organisations from all across the country have joined our coalition. This adds to the 75,000 grassroots supporters, 192 MPs, 1,200 scientists, 24 union leaders and 35 faith leaders who already champion the Bill in Parliament and beyond.

We have been turning support into action. In January, Faith, Business, and NGO leaders sent open letters to the Prime Minister calling for his backing. Over the summer, Trade Union leaders delivered a letter to No. 10 urging action and an update. Most recently, over 70,000 people signed 650 open letters to the Government as part of the Act Now, Change Forever Mass Lobby.

💪 BUILDING A MOVEMENT

The majority of the public wants stronger action on the climate and nature crisis, with people across the UK calling for the CAN Bill. This was clear when we delivered 650 open letters (one for every constituency) directly to No.10.

Pressure has continued to grow, with hundreds of campaigners meeting MPs both in their constituencies and at The Climate Coalition’s Mass Lobby in Westminster this summer, alongside over 2000 personalised emails sent from constituents directly to their MPs since September. In total this year, a whopping 51,000 emails have been sent from CAN Bill campaigners to MPs – THANK YOU!

👔 LEVERAGE IN AND OUTSIDE PARLIAMENT

In 2025, we strengthened our influence in parliament by launching the Climate and Nature Crisis Caucus, a cross-party group focused on the joined-up approach we need to tackle the climate and nature emergency. This allows MPs to work together across party lines to make sure climate and nature are firmly on the Government’s agenda.

Now, more than ever, we need MPs collaborating to build consensus on urgent climate and nature action, and this caucus gives us the platform to make it happen.

📰 IN THE MEDIA

All of our work in constituencies across the country has made headlines, with coverage of the CAN Bill, grassroots campaigning, and the Climate and Nature Crisis Caucus appearing right across our national media including The Guardian, The Financial Times, The New Statesman, the BBC, Times Radio, The Independent and The Express to name a few, as well as hundreds of local newspapers.

This demonstrates that the momentum for the CAN Bill is growing and in 2026, with your help, we will only get stronger.

🌿 THE CLIMATE AND NATURE BILL DEBATE

Despite the CAN Bill debate being adjourned on 24 January, MPs from across the House called for the Government to go further on climate and nature and take more steps to be held accountable, such as introducing an annual Climate and Nature Statement – the first of which took place in July.

The biggest moment in Parliament for the environmental movement was created by YOUR pressure, YOUR emails and YOUR support. We must now build on this to deliver the Climate and Nature Act, but we can only succeed if we work together.

We are creating constituency groups across the UK to push every MP to play their part in delivering REAL change for climate and nature. We know the answer, it’s to lock the CAN Bill into law before it’s too late.

👂 THE GOVERNMENT ARE LISTENING

Pressure from campaigners like you is already being noticed and making a difference. Ed Miliband thanked Zero Hour campaigners in the first ever annual climate and nature statement, showing that Zero Hour’s demands are being heard. The statement was a key win for our campaign, giving MPs the chance to scrutinise the UK government’s progress and failures in protecting our natural environment.

The Zero Hour team has since met with the Government, discussing the Caucus and CAN Bill with the Climate Minister, alongside other departments and officials, making the case for an integrated, whole-of-government approach to climate and nature action.

Now we must turn this momentum into action and delivery. We need the CAN Bill. We are closer than ever, with more supporters than ever, and the Government is listening. Let’s make 2026 our biggest year yet – now’s the time to act.
