Zero Hour calls on the SNP leadership candidates—Kate Forbes, Ash Regan and Humza Yousaf—to prioritise action to tackle the climate-nature crisis.
The Scottish Government is aiming to secure the wellbeing of Scotland’s environment and biodiversity—and aiming to end Scotland’s contribution to climate change—by (a) by restoring nature, and (b) playing its full role in limiting temperature rise to 1.5°C.
Zero Hour is calling on all of the candidates running to be the next Leader of the Scottish National Party to stand by these commitments.
If elected and appointed as First Minister of Scotland, we ask them to put the need for action to tackle the climate-nature crisis at their heart of the SNP’s work in Holyrood, in Westminster, and local authorities across Scotland.
The pledge that we ask the candidates to sign up to is:
If elected, I pledge to end Scotland’s contribution to climate change and nature loss by:
1. Reducing Scotland’s fair share of greenhouse gas emissions in line with limiting global heating to 1.5°C
2. Ensuring that the degradation and loss of nature across Scotland is in reverse by 2030, and
3. Delivering an integrated environmental protection and decarbonisation plan that leaves no one in Scotland behind.
