We’re retabling the CEE Bill – Get ready!

The CEE Bill is back.

A new parliamentary session began on 11 May, and we are introducing a stronger, updated CEE Bill at the end of June/early July.**

Since it was first introduced in September 2020, the CEE Bill Alliance is proud to have gained the support of 109 MPs from 10 political parties—as well as 30 Peers, 60 local authorities and over 350 scientific, faith, business and community leaders and organisations—alongside over 10,000 dedicated local campaigners. After a successful first phase of the campaign, we are upping the ante in this new session and tabling the CEE Bill as a Ten Minute Rule Bill. Find out more about these kinds of bills in our new FAQs. We also have big plans for how we can advance the campaign further, in parliament and in communities across the UK, so get ready for updates in the coming weeks.

Thank you to everyone for your support so far, especially our campaigners—without you none of this would be possible! But we aren’t done yet—in fact we have only just started. We’re super excited to hit the ground running in this new parliamentary session and make the strongest possible case for the CEE Bill as we prepare for COP26 in November. In this crucial year, the Bill sets out an emergency pathway for how the UK can play its part in restoring nature and reducing emissions. If you haven’t yet, show your support by joining the campaign on our homepage.

**We’re dependent on the parliamentary timetable on the exact date for reintroducing the Bill, but we’ll let you know as soon as we have one!

A Strengthened CEE Bill

We’ve used the downtime since the end of the last parliamentary session to produce a strengthened and condensed version of the CEE Bill. The updates, which are explained here, are based on feedback in the first phase of the campaign from MPs (Opposition and Government), other campaign groups, and scientists and experts around the UK. We’ve also condensed the Bill and cut out some of the clutter to make it easier to understand.

Of course, the new version carries forward everything that makes the Bill what it is – tackling the climate and nature emergencies in a joined-up approach, enshrining the Paris Agreement into law to limit global temperate rise to 1.5℃, taking full responsibility for the UK’s impact on the natural world, and ensuring citizen’s voices are heard and we create a fair way forward for us all with the help of a temporary climate and nature assembly.
