Meet your MP about the Nature + National Security Bill

The UK’s national security is at risk from climate and nature breakdown.

That’s not our opinion…

It’s the sobering assessment of the Joint Intelligence Committee’s report on biodiversity loss; a suppressed DEFRA report warning that the UK could face the ‘catastrophic collapse’ of our food systems by 2030; the National Emergency Briefing; and the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries' Planetary Solvency report which warns biodiversity loss is a now systemic financial risk to the UK economy.

This is a 5-alarm fire and we need an immediate response from the Government to keep us, our families and our communities safe.

But right now we are sleepwalking into disaster…

What can I do?

We need every campaigner across the UK to ask their MP for an urgent meeting in the constituency to discuss the new Nature + National Security Bill. Meeting your MP, either individually or with other local residents, is the most effective way of getting their attention. Campaigners who’ve done this tell us it’s fun, empowering, and makes them feel like they have a real stake in the civic process.

How do I email them?

Use our Write to MP e-tool to send them a message.

What will I be asking?

We are at a crucial moment for climate and nature action. The UK’s national security is at risk of catastrophic consequences. We need everyone to ask their MP how they intend to keep their constituents and their families and communities safe and raise awareness of the new Nature + National Security Bill.

We are recommending you ask your MP the following:

  • To support the new Nature + National Security Bill. You can learn more about this urgent Bill by watching the launch video and reading the MP Briefing.

  • To champion climate and nature and combat disinformation by joining the crossparty Climate and Nature Crisis Caucus (CNCC) in Parliament.

  • If your MP has been picked in the Private Member’s Bill Ballot, this will give them an amazing opportunity to pick a piece of legislation to advance in Parliament. If your MP hasn’t been picked in the ballot they can still show their support for the new Bill and encourage other Parliamentarians to get behind it to help it get made into law.

What support will I get?

Zero Hour has helped hundreds of campaigners meet their MPs in their constituencies to talk about climate and nature issues. Working directly with campaigners like you, we have collectively built the biggest environmental coalition in Westminster. We got the Government to sit up and take notice of the landmark Climate and Nature Bill when it had its Second Reading in Parliament in January 2025 and we have used the mandate you’ve given us to take the message directly into Whitehall with meetings with DEFRA and DESNZ. Helping campaigners lobby their MPs to build grassroots political power is what we do best.

How do I team up with other campaigners in my area?

Once you have a date for a meeting from your MP’s office let us know and we will link you up with other local people and allied organisations to work with. You can join your regional WhatsApp community here
