Zero Hour has been campaigning for the Climate and Nature (CAN) Bill since 2019, and we are extremely proud of the coalition and progress built over that time. With the support of tens of thousands of campaigners across the UK, we brought the Government to the table and secured a parliamentary debate on the CAN Bill in January 2025. This marked a huge milestone for our campaign, even though the Government ultimately suppressed a vote on the Bill.
The principles and content of the CAN Bill continue to guide our work. They set out what is needed to address the combined climate and nature crisis and remain central to our vision for the UK’s future. However, we also recognise that we must respond to the current political reality. Simply reintroducing the same CAN Bill and expecting a different outcome will not work. We know that we can't afford delay, we have to drive urgent progress no.
What’s needed now is delivery, at pace and at scale, to protect our communities and our national security from the growing and very real risks we face: food shortages, flooding, decreasing disease resilience, and civic unrest.
Zero Hour will continue to campaign for the principles set out in the CAN Bill, but we are changing how we campaign for them. Rather than focusing on securing everything through a single piece of legislation, we will use a wider range of campaigns and tools to deliver the transformative change needed for climate and nature. You can find out how we plan to do this by checking out our new Secure Your Future campaign here.
