The Strategic Nature Network (SNN) proposed in the Nature + National Security Bill is anchored to the UK’s 30by30 target - the headline goal of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF). This means that the SNN will ensure that 30% of our land and 30% of our sea is protected and effectively managed for nature and biodiversity. Research by Wildlife & Countryside Link showed that in England, currently just 2.83% of land meets the 30by30 criteria, so the impact of this approach would be huge for our ability to deliver our international commitment.
