THIS IS A NATIONAL EMERGENCY!

In November 2025, ten experts briefed an audience of MPs, business leaders, faith leaders, and VIPS at the National Emergency Briefing on Climate and Nature (NEB) in Westminster.

The key takeaway of the NEB, as reported in the New Scientist, was that the UK faces starvation, economic collapse, civil unrest and wars within years if we don’t take decisive action to limit further global warming and preserve nature immediately

The outlook is gloomy, but the good news is that an emergency response to the crisis exists.

The Climate and Nature Bill, cross-party legislation  supported by the scientists who delivered the briefing, would address the issues raised in the NEB, putting the UK on a WWII style footing to tackle the crisis.

At Zero Hour, we believe that the National Emergency Briefing gives us a unique and powerful opportunity to engage MPs about the urgency of the crisis and the need for bold, science-led legislation.

OUR PLAN

The NEB demands an emergency response from our MPs. But they won’t deliver it unless YOU demand it

From January to March: We will support campaigners across the UK as they mobilise in their constituencies and meet their MPs to ask how they will keep constituents safe from harm.

In April: We will support campaigners to host bespoke screenings of the People’s Emergency Briefing film in their constituencies and invite their MP, councillors, and fellow residents.

WHAT WE WANT YOU TO DO:

January

February

  • Join with other campaigners in your constituency who are calling for an emergency response using this form.
  • Use our Write to MP tool to request a meeting with you and your fellow constituents to discuss the NEB and the risks your constituency faces from climate and nature breakdown.
  • Register your MP meeting via email and we will help you connect with other campaigners and local allied groups in your constituency who can attend the meeting with you.
  • We will send you a briefing pack with bespoke asks for your MP based on the latest insights from our Parliamentary team.
  • Book a bespoke Zoom training session on how to meet your MP with our team by emailing us.

March

  • Meet your MP and ask them what the risk to your constituency is from climate and nature breakdown, and what an emergency response to the crisis would look like. We will support you ahead of the meeting and will help you issue a press release afterwards.
Click here to request a meeting with your MP.
  • Book a venue to host a constituency screening of the People’s Emergency Briefing film when it is released in early April. You can use our screening toolkit to help you.
  • Once you have a date and venue for the screening, invite your MP and councillors, as well as: faith groups, charities, businesses, local residents, and local press. You can use our screening toolkit to help you.

April

  • Host a screening of the People’s Emergency Briefing film (45 mins) in your local cinema, town hall, church, or community centre and invite as many people as possible to attend including local press.
  • Our screening toolkit has everything you need including template graphics and invitations.
  • After the screening, collectively demand an emergency response from your MP and ask them to commit to a follow up meeting with constituents in a month’s time.

WHAT WE ARE CALLING ON MPS TO DO:

  • Support the cross-party Climate and Nature Bill, which is an emergency response to the crisis in line with our science-led Paris and Montreal Agreement targets when it returns to Parliament later this year.
  • Join the cross-party Climate and Nature Crisis Caucus to ensure they are linked up with other Parliamentarians calling for science-led change
  • Commit to a monthly / quarterly meeting with your local network of campaigners to update you on progress.
  • Support the call for a televised version of the National Emergency Briefing

The Zero Hour team will be ready to help you every step of the way, providing training, skills, materials, and support as well as bespoke asks for your MP based on our Parliamentary insight.

FAQ

I can’t find other people in my constituency to work with. What should I do?

In our experience, people mobilise when they have a definite date for an MP meeting. Once you have one booked in, let us know and we will help you find others to work with through our mailing list and local allied groups and partners. We will support you all the way.

My MP won’t engage with me about a meeting or the film screening…

If your MP refuses to engage, let us know and our grassroots team will help you build a powerful response to their refusal to listen to constituents through the local press and social media. There is no excuse for MPs refusing to engage with constituents given the seriousness of the NEB’s findings.

What is the relationship between the National Emergency Briefing and Zero Hour?

Zero Hour is one of many campaign groups committed to ensuring the National Emergency Briefing gets maximum exposure and ensures politicians make an emergency response. We are working alongside the NEB team and Simon Oldridge from the NEB team was previously Zero Hour’s science liaison officer.

Why is the CAN Bill an emergency response?

The Climate and Nature Bill is the most comprehensive response to the briefing. This cross-party, science led legislation would initiate a national emergency response by making the UK’s international commitment to the global 1.5C carbon budget legally binding (the Paris Agreement) as well as the UK’s commitment to halting and reversing nature loss by 2030 (the Montreal Agreement). The CAN Bill is supported by many of the scientists who delivered the National Emergency Briefing.

I have another question

Please email us and we’ll be happy to help.

We hope you can join us this Spring as we push for the emergency response the science says is necessary.
